Gene Sequencing

Tissues to a lab, various magic, including cloning & PCR, use of enzymes and flourescent dyes -> sample prep

Sequence 96 samples at a time in a gel electrophoreisis machine (or a capillary machine), get images from CCD based on fragment travel time, laser stimulation, dye wavelength, enhance CCD signals, edge detect, lane track, false color image, extract raw chromatogram files

Sequencing machines were Mac or NT driven

Files moved to Unix for lane tracking, back to Mac for human editing, to Unix for split into 96 chromatograms & further analysis

Feedback to the lab via LIMS (FMP evolved to Sybase to Oracle)
